AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND – The Hindu Council of New Zealand (HCNZ) expresses its profound sorrow, heartfelt sympathy, and unwavering support to all those affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.

The severe flooding has deeply impacted local communities across Nepal as well as international travellers, including numerous New Zealand Hindus undertaking the sacred Mount Kailash and Manasarovar Yatra. Embarking on the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar is considered deeply pious; a sacred journey and a once-in-a-lifetime dream for every Hindu. HCNZ is aware of families within the New Zealand Hindu community who have tragically lost loved ones or remain out of contact with family members currently in the affected regions. Our hearts go out to everyone enduring this period of anxiety and grief.

In response to this crisis, the Hindu Council of New Zealand and its affiliate forums are mobilizing immediate financial aid through upcoming community initiatives:

• 2nd NZ Hindu Women Conference (30 August 2026): Scheduled at the ISSO Swaminarayan Complex in Papatoetoe, Auckland, the conference organisers and participating women entrepreneurs have pledged 50% of all registration fees directly toward Nepal flood relief efforts in a strong show of solidarity.
• 16th Annual Raksha Bandhan Community Celebration (12 September 2026): Hosted by ISSO Swaminarayan NZ on behalf of the HOTA (Hindu Organisations, Temples and Associations) Forum, exclusive prayers are being held to support affected individuals and families. Traditionally celebrated as "the bond of protection" symbolising care, mutual responsibility, and community safety, the entire HOTA family extends its full support and solidarity to the victims of this disaster.
